Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a detail-oriented AI/ML Engineer to design, test, and optimize prompts that improve the performance, accuracy, and safety of AI language models for the Department of Defense (DoD) DMDC's Enterprise Law Enforcement Support Services (ELEs2). In this role, you will be key in designing, developing, and deploying cutting-edge machine learning solutions to address complex business challenges across DBIDS, IMESA, I2. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to grasp requirements, develop AI agents, and perform prompt engineering. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of NLP concepts. This role involves close collaboration with AI researchers, developers, and product teams to fine-tune model behavior and enhance user interactions.

What You'll Do:
  1. Design, develop, and deploy AI applications using LLMs, agent frameworks, and related technologies.
  2. Collaborate with enterprise teams to integrate LLM models with existing products and systems.
  3. Develop and maintain large-scale applications using Java, Python, OpenShift containers, and other relevant technologies.
  4. Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, LLMs, agent frameworks, and apply this knowledge to improve systems.
  5. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to applications and models.
  6. Ensure systems are monitored to increase operational efficiency and managed to mitigate risk.
  7. Lead, design, develop, test, and implement applications, system components, tools, models, and analytics to manage complex business functions.
  8. Resolve coding, testing, and escalated platform issues of a technical nature.
  9. Lead teams to ensure compliance and risk management requirements are met, working with stakeholders on key initiatives.
  10. Collaborate and influence professionals at all levels, including managers.
  11. Mentor junior software engineers.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; 6 years with MS/MA; 3 years with PhD; or 12 years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot and Codeium.
  • Agile experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java.
  • Experience with AI models via APIs or SDKs.
  • Knowledge of NIPRGPT, CAMOCGP, OpenAI, TensorFlow.
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts, prompt engineering, RAG techniques, and NLP tools.
  • Familiarity with Python or scripting languages is a plus.
