Our client, one of the world's leading law firms, is hiring an AI Legal Engineer to help lead its firmwide AI transformation. The firm advises many of the world's largest corporations, financial institutions and governments across a global network of offices.

The firm has made AI a strategic priority and is investing heavily in generative AI, legal-specific platforms and in-house tooling. This hire sits at the intersection of law and technology. They will translate how lawyers actually work into AI solutions that are accurate, secure and adopted across the firm.

This is a high-visibility seat. The AI Legal Engineer will work directly with partners, practice group leaders, knowledge management, IT and innovation leadership, and will help shape how a top-tier firm practices law in the next decade.

Key Responsibilities

AI strategy and use-case design

• Partner with practice groups to identify high-value AI use cases across litigation, transactional, regulatory and advisory work
• Map legal workflows end to end and redesign them around AI-enabled tools
• Prioritize initiatives by client impact, risk, feasibility and return on investment

Solution build and deployment

• Design, configure and deploy generative AI solutions, including legal AI platforms, enterprise LLM tools and custom applications
• Develop and refine prompts, prompt libraries, templates and agentic workflows for legal tasks such as drafting, review, research, due diligence and summarization
• Build retrieval-augmented solutions on top of firm precedents, knowledge assets and document management systems
• Work with IT and engineering on integrations, APIs, data pipelines and automation

Quality, risk and governance

• Define testing and evaluation frameworks to measure accuracy, reliability and hallucination risk on legal outputs
• Ensure solutions meet client confidentiality, privilege, data security, ethics and regulatory requirements
• Contribute to the firm's AI governance, responsible-use policies and vendor due diligence

Adoption and change management

• Train lawyers and staff on AI tools and best practices; create guidance, playbooks and documentation
• Act as a trusted advisor to partners and associates, translating legal needs into technical requirements and back
• Track adoption and outcomes, and report results to firm leadership

Market and vendor intelligence

• Evaluate legal tech and AI vendors, run pilots and proofs of concept, and advise on build-versus-buy decisions
• Stay current on AI developments and their implications for legal practice and client service

Required

• JD from an accredited law school
• 5–12 years of experience, gained at a law firm and/or a legal tech or AI company, with a clear track record on technical legal projects
• Hands‑on experience designing, implementing or scaling AI or legal technology solutions (e.g., generative AI tools, contract analytics, document automation, e‑discovery, knowledge management platforms)
• Strong grasp of how legal work is done in a large‑firm environment, including matter workflows, precedent use and quality standards
• Practical knowledge of large language models, prompt engineering and AI evaluation
• Excellent communication skills, with credibility in front of partners, senior leadership and technical teams

Highly preferred

• Admitted to practice (active or inactive bar membership in at least one jurisdiction)
