Job summary

Cengage is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team building AI-first tools for the CLP platform. You will partner with product and design to define innovative roadmaps, elevating quality and accessibility for learners globally.

In this remote-first role, you will guide technical strategy, drive strong engineering practices, and manage cross-functional delivery across distributed teams, including Java and React expertise and modern cloud technologies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent education/work experience.
2+ years of technology leadership experience, including leading globally distributed teams.
Strong hands-on Java development experience (5+ years).
Strong hands-on React frontend experience (5+ years).

Responsibilities

Lead a high-performing engineering team focused on quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Reimagine and optimize software delivery using automation and generative AI.
Drive Product Operating Model (POM) with frequent stakeholder engagement.
Track quality and efficiency through SDLC metrics and report to executives.
Balance technical debt with new feature work within each sprint.
Collaborate with partners to manage product backlogs and budgets.
Stay ahead of AI and cloud trends to inform roadmaps.
