Job summary

Amazon Security Detection, Response & Engineering (SDRE) seeks a Software Development Engineer II to own the architecture of a new defensive security platform. You will shape scalable, low-latency systems and drive ML/AI integration across detection, response, and forensics workflows.

You will collaborate with security leadership to balance speed-to-market with long-term durability, setting standards and mentoring engineers in a culture of curiosity and ownership.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture of critical components within the new defensive security platform, designing for scale, low-latency, and resilience from day one.
• Drive the AI-first approach by identifying opportunities to apply ML, generative AI, and intelligent automation to detection, response, and forensics workflows.
• Make high-judgment technical trade-offs across distributed systems, evaluating build vs. buy and prototyping emerging technologies.
• Influence the product roadmap with product and security leadership to define what we build and why it matters.
• Set engineering standards across operational excellence, security, testing, CI/CD, and observability.
• Mentor and elevate engineers while fostering a culture of curiosity and ownership.
• Navigate ambiguity and drive alignment by synthesizing perspectives and making data-driven decisions.
• Own end-to-end delivery: design, build, test, deploy, and operate production systems.
