Job summary

ICF is seeking an AI Engineering Intern to support AI-enabled solutions across development, data, security, and governance. You’ll work hands-on with experienced teams, write code, prepare data, prototype workflows, and communicate findings.

The 10-week internship begins in June and ends in August, with a hybrid schedule from Reston, VA (2x per week). Pay range is $37,855–$77,869 annually for full-time employment, with no housing or relocation assistance provided at this time.

Qualifications

• 30-completed college credit hours by start date in computer science, data science, information systems, engineering, analytics, cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree and enrollment verification or 9 credit hours in a graduate program related to computer science, data science, information systems, engineering, analytics, cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, SQL, or comparable languages, including scripting, data manipulation, querying, analysis, or reusable code development.
• Familiarity with databases, data schemas, data pipelines, and ETL processes, JSON and YAML.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts including LLMs, agentic workflows, or model evaluation.
• Familiarity with APIs, cloud platforms, enterprise data tools, low-code platforms, Power BI.
• Experience using Git or Claude Code and collaborative development workflows.
• Knowledge of responsible AI, data privacy, information security, identity and access management, data classification, and AI governance.
• Strong analytical and written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user needs, workflows, requirements, and success criteria.
• Write, test, and maintain code or scripts to support data processing, AI applications, integrations, automation, validation, or reporting.
• Prepare and evaluate approved datasets, investigate data issues, and document data sources and processing steps.
• Prototype AI-enabled solutions using approved models, APIs, cloud services, low-code tools, or related technologies.
• Create test cases and evaluate results against baselines; record errors, risks, and limitations.
• Support responsible AI, privacy, security, and governance practices with appropriate data access and human review.
• Use version control and team development practices to organize code, configuration, and documentation.
• Prepare technical documentation, runbooks, demonstrations, analyses, or presentations.
• Participate in project check-ins, track progress, and incorporate feedback.
• Recommend practical improvements to workflows, tools, data quality, testing, or UX.
