Overview

Research and Development - Houston, TX - Full Time

Serves as a trusted expert in a critical domain of petroleum engineering, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence engineering and data science. Possesses exceptional technical expertise that is widely recognized within the industry, earning the trust and confidence of both company management and associates. Demonstrates the ability to effectively analyze complex situations and provide practical and actionable solutions within their area of expertise.

Scope

This role offers opportunities for individuals with exceptional technical skills to advance and make significant contributions individually. This includes individuals with extensive experience and proven ability, as well as those who are experts in specialized areas of petroleum and artificial intelligence engineering, and data science. The expansion and increasing complexity of Aramco's production operations, especially in the integration of petroleum engineering with AI engineering support, necessitate that ASC and Saudi Aramco maintain in-house expertise in multiple specialized areas. The Engineering Advisor, Senior Engineering Advisor and Engineering Consultant positions provide for this expertise at increasing levels of recognized competence and demonstrated ability to communicate with Management and working associates and to convert technical expertise into practical recommendations regarding budget items, operating procedures, etc.

The specialized areas where individuals are placed in Advisor and Senior Advisor positions strongly incorporate AI and data science, extending beyond the core domains of Reservoir, Production, and Workover Engineering to encompass Reservoir Simulation, Well Data Base Management, Long-Range Planning, Oil Well Corrosion, Gas Lift, and Well Stimulation. Future applications may also include Sand Control, Well Completion and Testing Equipment, and Gas Engineering. This role involves managing projects on behalf of Saudi Aramco and ASC, particularly in scenarios where reliance on external consultants would otherwise be necessary, while leveraging exceptional expertise in AI and data science, combined with an in-depth understanding of Saudi Aramco's operations, to deliver solutions that cannot be easily replicated by external parties.

Principal duties

• Provides expert advice and assistance on operating problems relating to his/her area of expertise.
• Leading and managing a cross-functional team to develop and implement AI-driven solutions.
• Overseeing the design and deployment of machine learning models and algorithms to optimize engineering processes.
• Identifying opportunities to integrate AI technologies to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making.
• Staying abreast of the latest advancements in AI to ensure innovative and cutting-edge solutions.
• Managing and overseeing AI-related projects from conception to deployment, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
• Specifies design criteria and relevant operating parameters for development of BI's and/or new projects within his/her area of expertise.
• Participates in project technical reviews and reviews proposals for new or changed operating procedures on his/her area of expertise to ensure efficient and economic operations.
• Originates ideas for improvements, develops a basis for required field testing and Management review, analyses results and recommends new or changed procedures and/or facilities.
• Recommends, designs and oversees suitable outside investigations to resolve problems which exceed current engineering knowledge in his/her specialty.
• Represents Saudi Aramco in technical contacts with Shareholders and SAG representatives dealing with company procedures or proposed operations relative to his/her area of expertise.
• Makes presentations to Executive Management, to Shareholder Program Review or to various Shareholder Technical Meetings, as appropriate.
• Represents Aramco in dealings with manufacturers, vendors, outside consultants, etc. within his/her area of expertise.
• Conducts seminars, prepares manuals and trains and develops Aramco engineers and operating personnel in his/her area of expertise.
• Participates in technical societies and technical groups in his/her area of expertise; represents Aramco on industry committees or specialized groups as appropriate.
• Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements

• PhD in engineering or equivalent technical field; intensive industry training including appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected.
• Typically has at least twenty (20) years of related experience, including ten (10) years of intensive experience in his/her specialty. Typically will be active in related professional societies and will have achieved professional recognition through publications, committee activities, etc. Will typically have received a higher level of industrial recognition, such as committee chairmanships, appointment as "distinguished lecturer", etc.
• Must be able to communicate and comprehend both orally and in writing, accurately, clearly and concisely in English at the high level required to perform the job as outlined.
• Must be clearly recognized by both his/her supervisors and colleagues as thoroughly qualified and highly competent in his/her area of expertise. Must have demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly to work effectively with others, and to utilize his/her technical knowledge to achieve practical results. ASC and Saudi Aramco Management must have confidence in his/her judgment and recommendations. Additionally, because of prior contacts and/or industry recognition, Shareholder representatives, SAG personnel and other outside contacts should also recognize his/her technical expertise. He/she must be able to represent ASC and Saudi Aramco effectively in such contacts and command technical respect. Further, to wide recognition as an outstanding expert, must have repeatedly demonstrated his/her ability to employ his/her expertise effectively to achieve practical Aramco objectives.
