Job summary

Berkley Hunt is partnering with an early-stage AI company building intelligent software for the government sector. They’re looking for an AI Engineer to help develop and deploy AI systems and agents that solve complex problems across government and public sector environments.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys taking advanced AI technologies from research into production. You’ll work closely with a small technical team, contribute directly to customer-facing systems and help shape

• Debug, evaluate and improve AI systems and agents in real-world production environments.
• Partner closely with engineering, product and government stakeholders in a small, high-ownership team.

What You’ll Do

• Build and deploy AI systems and autonomous AI agents for government and public sector applications
• Design, build and improve AI agents that can reason, use tools and complete complex workflows
• Develop AI/ML applications using Python and modern AI frameworks
• Work with LLMs, generative AI, agentic systems, retrieval and tool-use
• Design and improve data pipelines, evaluation frameworks and AI infrastructure

What We’re Looking For

• Strong Python and software engineering experience
• Hands-on experience building and deploying AI/ML systems
• Experience building AI agents, agentic workflows or LLM-powered applications
• Strong understanding of LLMs, generative AI, retrieval and tool use
• Previous experience working within the government or public sector
• Comfortable taking AI systems from prototype through to production
• Strong problem-solving skills and interest in working on complex government use cases
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving early-stage environment with a high level of ownership
• Experience working with government agencies, public sector organisations or government-focused technology teams is highly relevant
• Government sector experience required
