Job summary

Verdantas is seeking a Mid-Level AI Engineer to support an Intelligence Community client on mission-critical applications. You will ideate, prototype, and deliver AI-enabled solutions spanning backend services, REST APIs, and modern front-end interfaces.

Hybrid work with 2–3 on-site days, using Next.js, TypeScript, FastAPI, Python, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch. You will collaborate across teams to translate requirements into scalable, secure software while applying best practices in AI tooling,

Qualifications

• TS/SCI Clearance with Active CI Polygraph.
• 9 years of relevant experience in computer science, data science, or software engineering.
• Proficiency with at least 1 generative AI framework (e.g., LangChain, Haystack, LlamaIndex).
• Strong prompt engineering and prompt management skills.
• Experience building agentic AI solutions (MCP, tool development, context engineering, A2A).
• React.js and TypeScript proficiency with API integration.
• Backend services and REST APIs using Node.js or Python.
• PostgreSQL data modeling, SQL, migrations, indexing, optimization.
• Hands-on Docker experience with Dockerfiles and containers.

Responsibilities

• Ideate, prototype, and deliver AI-enabled solutions aligned with stakeholders.
• Design and maintain full-stack apps using Next.js, TypeScript, FastAPI, Python, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch.

In this role, you will ideate, prototype, and deliver AI‑enabled solutions that directly support national security objectives. You will work across the full technology stack — from intelligent backend services and RESTful APIs to modern front‑end interfaces — building and maintaining applications that are reliable, scalable, and secure. This is a collaborative, high‑impact position that sits at the intersection of generative AI, agentic systems, and full stack software engineering. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in AI frameworks, proficiency across modern web technologies, and the communication skills to translate complex requirements into working solutions. This is a hybrid position requiring on‑site presence 2‑3 days per week.

What You’ll Do:

• Ideate, prototype, and deliver AI‑enabled solutions in alignment with stakeholders and existing application environments
• Design, develop, and maintain full stack applications using Next.js, TypeScript, FastAPI, Python, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch
• Use Pydantic (Python) and Zod (TypeScript) for data validation
• Build and maintain Docker images and deploy, configure, and troubleshoot applications in OpenShift
• Investigate and resolve production issues across the user interface, backend services, database, and application deployment
• Work with customers, product owners, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, identify dependencies, and estimate implementation effort
• Participate in technical design and code reviews, write automated tests, and maintain technical documentation

What You’ll Bring:

• A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for 4 years of experience, and a master’s degree may be substituted for 6 years of experience 9 years of relevant experience in computer science, data science, and/or software engineering roles or a highly related field of work with similar scope and responsibilities
• TS/SCI Clearance with Active CI Polygraph
• Strong proficiency with at least 1 generative AI framework including but not limited to: LangChain, Haystack by Deepset, and LlamaIndex, among others
• Strong proficiency in prompt engineering and prompt management
• Experience with developing agentic AI solutions, including MCP, tool development, context engineering, and agent‑to‑agent (A2A) communication
• Strong proficiency in React.js and TypeScript, including functional components, hooks, reusable component design, and API integration
• Strong experience developing backend services and REST APIs using Node.js or Python
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL, including relational data modeling, SQL, schema migrations, indexing, and query optimization
• Hands‑on experience with Docker, including writing Dockerfiles, building images, and troubleshooting containers
• Strong communication skills and the ability to translate business and customer needs into clear technical requirements
• Preferred: Experience with AWS products
• Experience with AI observability platforms such as Langfuse and LangSmith
• Experience developing with agentic AI coding harnesses such as Codex
• Experience with Next.js AI SDK and FastMCP
• Familiarity with software development within the Department of War
• Familiarity with Linux environments and Kubernetes concepts
• Experience improving application security, accessibility, performance, and reliability
• Experience working in an Agile development environment and coordinating with product, operations, and security teams

Salary and Benefits:
