Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) seeks a Project Scientist to advance analogical reasoning systems and create interfaces that support designer and engineer creativity through AI tools. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree with 5–8 years of research experience, excellent communication, and strong project management skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop new analogical reasoning systems using contemporary AI (LLMs/VLMs/Diffusion models).
• Design and develop interfaces for interacting with the creativity support tools.
• Design and run experiments with realistic design tasks.
• Analyze quantitative data on people’s interaction with the tools.
• Analyze qualitative data from people’s opinions and thoughts on working with the tools.
• Conceptualize and draft research papers for submission to high-quality HCI conferences and journals.
• Project documentation and effective communication with the team.
• Oral presentation of research findings.
