Job summary

Tomorrow.io is seeking a Meteorological Data Scientist with strong operational forecasting experience to help customers maximize proprietary satellites, NWP, and AI model data.

You will dive into satellite data, NWP and AI weather models to produce product prototypes, strengthen use cases, perform QA/QC, and validate satellites and models. You’ll work hands-on with AI weather models and satellite data no one else has seen.

Qualifications

• A degree in Atmospheric Science or Meteorology is required.
• 3+ years of experience as an operational meteorologist or research atmospheric scientist with customer-facing work.
• Curious mindset — think deeply about why meteorological data works the way it does.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills with cross-functional and customer-facing experience.
• Strong hands-on skills with scientific code (e.g., Python), using common packages for data processing.
• Data visualization with CartoPy, MetPy, or similar tools.
• Experience with cloud compute and meteorological/geospatial data formats (NetCDF, GRIB, GeoJSON, METAR, TAF).
• Solid understanding of data architecture and pipelines; handling structured/unstructured data.
• Experience integrating AI-assisted development tools into workflows and AI-assisted weather communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop data visualizations, statistical analyses, and product prototypes that maximize Tomorrow.io meteorological data for customer use cases.
• Perform validations of AI weather models and products.
• Partner with Weather Science, Weather Applications, Bespoke Solutions, and Space and Sensor teams to troubleshoot model and data performance.
• Use AI tools and model data to produce new product prototypes for scientists and end users.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Accounts, and Customer Teams to create customer-focused use cases and value propositions.
