Anthropic seeks an exceptional Research Scientist to join the Life Sciences team in San Francisco. You will advance Claude’s capabilities in biology through post-training, evaluation design, and RL environment development, interfacing ML with biology and software engineering to tackle real scientific tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience applying ML and software engineering to biological problems.
• Experience in drug discovery or biotech/pharma or academic research, with understanding of scientific workflows.
• Strong software engineering skills: production-quality Python and large codebases.
• Hands-on experience training or fine-tuning ML models (LLMs, protein language models).
• Track record shipping computational tools or pipelines used by biologists.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and define problems in a fast-evolving research environment.
• Work independently while collaborating with research, product, and domain teams.
• Results-oriented with bias toward rapid iteration and measurable impact.
• Passionate about using AI to accelerate scientific discovery while upholding ethics.

Responsabilités

• Build and ship agentic tools and integrations for Claude to execute biology workflows.
• Design and build evaluation benchmarks for biology tasks.
• Collaborate with product and design to scope, prototype, and ship life sciences features.
• Partner with biotech, pharma, and academic users to gather feedback for product improvements.
• Maintain the engineering infrastructure behind our biology product surface.
• Translate biological knowledge into product requirements and evaluation criteria.
