The Baltimore Sun is seeking a fast, curious Digital News Producer to help build a dynamic daily news report for our readers. You will monitor partner networks and sources, select and edit material, and craft original stories for digital platforms and the expanded e-edition.

We value excellent news judgment, strong writing and editing, and the ability to move quickly across subjects while verifying facts and ensuring transparency. AI-assisted research experience is a plus.

Qualifications

Strong and independent news judgment.
Exceptional curiosity and broad interest in news and public affairs.
Ability to work quickly and accurately across multiple stories.
Competitive instinct to find important stories before others.
Strong writing, editing and headline-writing skills.
Comfort handling material from various editorial perspectives and identifying worthwhile journalism.
Accountability journalism mindset on government spending, regulation, and public safety.
Familiarity with AI-assisted research and production tools, or eagerness to learn.

Responsibilities

Monitor network of content partners and identify material for publication or development.
Scan local, regional, and national sources for stories relevant to readers.
Select and prioritize stories for expanded daily e-edition and digital report.
Write and produce accurate, engaging stories from various sources.
Use AI and digital tools to accelerate research and production while verifying facts.
Identify Maryland angles and local consequences of national stories.
Rewrite, update, and package partner material per standards.
Write strong headlines and summaries for digital display.
Know when to pursue additional original reporting.
