Job summary

DraftKings is seeking a Database Reliability Engineer to support the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of our demanding real-time database infrastructure for sports betting and gaming. You will combine database expertise with software engineering and automation to build resilient, self-healing systems and drive reliability across cloud and on-premises environments.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in Database Reliability Engineering or related infrastructure engineering roles with a strong database focus.
• Experience supporting relational databases, preferably Aurora MySQL, and with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ScyllaDB, Aurora, or other managed cloud DB services.
• Hands-on software development experience in Go or Python to build automation and tooling for Kubernetes controllers and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Drive database reliability across PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, ScyllaDB, Aerospike and managed cloud services, focusing on high availability, replication, partitioning, storage, and connection management.
• Build automation-first database platforms with Kubernetes operators and IaC, GitOps workflows, and production-grade tooling for provisioning, failover, backups, migrations, and lifecycle management.
• Develop self-healing, fault-tolerant infrastructure and internal tooling to reduce operational toil and improve engineering efficiency.
• Optimize performance and cost across cloud and on-premises environments, including capacity planning, resource efficiency, and workload consolidation.
• Collaborate with application engineering teams to promote safe database practices and zero-downtime deployments.
• Leverage AI to improve observability, anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, and documentation, ensuring reliability and secure AI-generated outputs.
