Job summary

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to design, build, and support custom applications and data integrations that enhance agency operations, with emphasis on security and performance in on-prem environments.

You will work with cross-functional teams to deploy models, ensure CJIS/PII protection, and continuously learn new AI tools while maintaining strong governance.

Qualifications

• Experience with ML frameworks: ML.NET, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
• Knowledge of LLMs, RAG pipelines, and AI agent frameworks.
• Basic secure coding principles and CJIS data protection understanding.
• Ability to work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
• Strong problem-solving and innovative thinking.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, train, and optimize ML models using listed frameworks.
• Integrate AI models into in-house apps and services in secure on-prem environments.
• Experiment with LLMs and agentic coding tools for secure internal automation and analytics.
• Perform data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation with multi-source data.
• Collaborate with CJIS/PII protection standards in all models and data workflows.
• Work with analysts, investigators, and IT staff to identify AI value opportunities.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment in a team.
• Continuously learn and prototype emerging AI tools with governance.
• Perform other related duties as required.
