We’re looking for a strong developer with an engineering mindset who is excited about redefining how software development gets done with AI.
This is a hands-on, embedded engineering role. The developer will work directly alongside application development teams to understand problems, learn unfamiliar codebases, and rapidly design, build, test, and deliver working solutions.
Claude Code and Cursor will be core development tools used in this role to accelerate delivery and enable new agentic approaches to software engineering. Experience with other AI-assisted or agentic development tools is valuable, but the primary focus will be applying Claude Code and Cursor effectively as part of day-to-day software development.
While delivering working solutions is the primary focus, the developer will also help identify successful agentic development techniques and introduce practical, repeatable practices that can benefit other development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Embed with application development teams to quickly understand business needs, technical challenges, existing applications, and codebases.
- Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and deliver working software solutions with a strong focus on speed, quality, and measurable outcomes.
- Use Claude Code and Cursor extensively as part of the development process, applying agentic techniques throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Quickly become productive within unfamiliar applications, frameworks, codebases, and technology stacks.
- Apply agentic development techniques to accelerate code analysis, feature development, modernization, debugging, testing, and documentation.
- Build and integrate APIs, services, user experiences, automation, and other software capabilities as needed to solve the problem at hand.
- Apply strong engineering judgment when reviewing, testing, and validating AI-generated work.
- Apply context engineering techniques to provide agents with appropriate application context, architectural guidance, development standards, examples, and acceptance criteria.
- Use agent instructions, skills, hooks, subagents, reusable workflows, and similar agentic patterns where they improve development outcomes.
- Explore Model Context Protocol (MCP) and other approaches for securely connecting development agents with tools, APIs, documentation, repositories, and enterprise systems.
- Design agentic workflows that appropriately combine autonomous execution with human review and approval.
- Establish strong validation practices for AI-generated code through automated testing, static analysis, code review, CI/CD, and other engineering controls.
- Evaluate emerging AI development techniques and apply those that provide practical value.
- Identify successful patterns from embedded engagements and help turn them into repeatable development practices that other teams can adopt.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, security teams, and business partners to move from problem to working solution quickly.
Required Qualifications
- Strong software development fundamentals, including application design, debugging, testing, source control, and software development lifecycle practices.
- Hands-on software development experience with at least one of the following technologies or application patterns:
- Spring Boot
- REST APIs and services
- React
- Angular
- Python
- Java batch processing
- JSP-based applications
- Ability to quickly understand and safely modify unfamiliar applications and codebases.
- Experience creating, consuming, or integrating APIs and backend services.
- Understanding of automated testing and the importance of independently validating generated code.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an embedded engineering model and rapidly move from understanding a problem to delivering a working solution.
- Ability and willingness to rapidly learn new development tools, technologies, frameworks, and AI capabilities.
AI & Agentic Engineering Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas is required:
- Hands-on use of Claude Code, Cursor, or other agentic coding environments.
- Using AI agents to explore and understand unfamiliar applications and codebases.
- Context engineering and management of repository-level AI instructions.
- Agentic task decomposition and planning.
- AI-assisted code generation, refactoring, modernization, debugging, testing, and documentation.
- Agent skills, custom instructions, hooks, subagents, reusable workflows, or similar concepts.
- MCP or other agent and tool integration technologies.
- Multi-agent or orchestrated agent workflows.Human-in-the-loop approval and review patterns.
- Automated evaluation and validation of agent-generated work.
- Observability and auditing of AI-assisted development workflows.
Direct experience with every agentic development concept isn’t expected. We’re looking for someone with strong development fundamentals who can quickly learn and effectively apply emerging AI development techniques.
Preferred / Value-Added Experience
Additional experience in any of the following areas is beneficial:
- Full-stack development using React or Angular with REST-based backend services.
- Java and Spring Boot, including REST API and service development.
- Traditional Spring applications, including Spring MVC and JSP.
- Supporting or modernizing Struts applications.
- DB2, SQL, relational data access, and database troubleshooting.
- Python development and automation.
- Experience working across both modern and legacy enterprise applications.
- Application modernization or incremental replacement of legacy technologies.
- CI/CD and DevOps practices.
- Containerized or isolated development environments.
Security & Responsible AI Development
Candidates should understand, or have an interest in developing expertise around, security considerations associated with agentic development, including:
- Secrets and credential management
- Secure coding practices
- Agent and tool permissions
- Sandboxed or isolated execution
- Prompt injection and untrusted content
- Data protection
- Human approval for sensitive actions
- Auditing and observability
- Responsible use of enterprise data and development resources
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who likes to build.
The right person is a strong developer who can embed with a team, understand an unfamiliar problem or application quickly, and start delivering results. They’re comfortable working across technologies and existing codebases rather than requiring a particular technology stack or a perfectly defined problem.
They use Claude Code and Cursor as engineering force multipliers to understand systems faster, explore solutions, develop and test code, troubleshoot problems, and improve overall development velocity.
They’re highly execution-oriented and comfortable operating in a high-leverage, forward-deployed or embedded engineering role. They can move quickly from problem to working solution while maintaining sound engineering practices.
They’re also naturally curious about better ways of developing software. As they discover agentic techniques that work, they’ll help introduce those practices to other developers and teams. The primary focus, however, remains hands-on engineering and delivering results.
Ultimately, we’re looking for a high-leverage, forward-deployed software engineer who embeds with development teams, learns their problems and codebases quickly, and uses Claude Code, Cursor, and strong engineering practices to rapidly deliver working solutions.
