Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks students or early-stage researchers pursuing degrees in CS, mathematics, data science, AI, or software engineering to advance AI/ML algorithms and analytics for national and health security. Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, AI, Software Engineering, or related field.
• GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Experience developing software or analysis using Python, R, Java, C, or C++.

Responsibilities

• Develop and prototype AI/ML algorithms and software systems addressing national and health security challenges.
• Explore methods to make AI-enabled systems explainable, interpretable, and trustworthy.
• Develop analytics for surveillance and situational-awareness applications including data fusion and decision support.
• Build and operationalize analytics pipelines that transform large, heterogeneous data into actionable information.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design experiments, evaluate algorithms, and transition research into operational capabilities.
