Job summary

Altera is seeking an AI Engineer to join the Cloud Software Engineering team in San Jose. You will design, develop, and optimize AI-powered applications and services to improve developer productivity and knowledge discovery.

You will work with ML, LLMs, search tech, data pipelines, and cloud-native platforms, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable AI solutions for internal and external users.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, ML, or related field.
• 3+ years of industry experience in software engineering, ML, or data science.
• Strong programming skills in Python and TypeScript; familiarity with modern software practices.
• Experience with ML, generative AI, LLMs, or information retrieval systems.
• Experience deploying scalable cloud-native services.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI and ML solutions using LLMs, retrieval systems, and agent-based architectures.
• Build AI workflows coordinating LLMs, tools, data sources, APIs, and multi-step reasoning.
• Develop data processing, indexing, and retrieval pipelines for intelligent search.
• Create evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, and monitoring for system quality and impact.
• Experiment with model selection, prompt engineering, and tuning techniques.
• Analyze performance and drive data-driven improvements across the AI platform.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams, and domain experts to translate requirements into scalable AI solutions.
• Develop and maintain cloud-native services and APIs supporting AI apps.
