Job summary

Plane Careers in the United States seeks a Software Engineer for AI Application to build the agent layer, retrieval, and tools that power AI-assisted work inside Plane. You will develop in Python, design embeddings and vector storage, and integrate model APIs to ship features used by real customers.

You will collaborate with backend, frontend, and product teams, owning end-to-end delivery, testing, and observability. This role emphasizes reliability and safe AI integration.

Qualifications

• Two or more years building production software.
• Experience shipping features backed by large language models.
• Strong Python and production services experience.

Responsibilities

• Build agent workflows that operate on Plane data, including planning loops, tool calling, multi-step execution, and recovery when a step fails.
• Design and ship MCP servers that expose Plane capabilities as tools, defining schemas, permissions, and error semantics.
• Own the retrieval layer end to end, including embedding models, vector storage, and hybrid search.
• Build the agent interfaces that customers touch, including streaming output and approval gates.
• Establish the evaluation harness for datasets, regression suites, and metrics.
• Instrument tracing, token cost, and latency across agent runs to reduce failures.
• Design the permission and audit model for agent actions.
• Evaluate models and frameworks and recommend adoption.
• Collaborate with backend, frontend, and product engineers to ship prototypes.
