Job summary

Duke University’s Research Computing group seeks a Senior Analyst IT, AI Engagement Specialist to help researchers adopt AI tools in their workflows. You will translate objectives into AI-enabled processes, collaborate with AI engineers and data teams, and support services and documentation across disciplines.

The role emphasizes teaching, outreach, and practical deployment of AI for research, with a hybrid on-site/remote arrangement in Durham, NC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.
• Strong programming and analysis skills in Python, MATLAB, R, C/C++ for research workflows.
• Experience in HPC environments and AI/ML tooling usage.
• Familiarity with enterprise IT services and security practices.
• Excellent communication and ability to teach complex concepts.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one consultations and AI-enabled workflow guidance to research groups.
• Help researchers use, adapt, and build with AI tools including LLMs, copilots, APIs, notebooks, MCP integrations.
• Translate research objectives into practical AI-enabled workflows using HPC, cloud, and data platforms.
• Develop and support AI services, shared training datasets, and utilities for common tasks.
