The opportunity
My client is a global software group made up of a large portfolio of software businesses across a wide range of industries. They’re financially strong, growing and focused on the long term. They’re expanding the leadership team responsible for driving AI adoption across the entire group.
What you’ll do
- Embed in a portfolio business for up to 6 months at a time, working out where delivery is slowing down and fixing it hands‑on
- Modernise legacy systems and bring AI‑accelerated workflows into everyday engineering, using tools such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, spec‑driven development and AI code review
- Look beyond the code to spot bottlenecks in process, product or communication, and help teams fix them
- Coach engineering teams and work alongside their leadership so AI‑first ways of working stick after you’ve moved on
- Move on to the next business, refining a playbook that spreads across the group
- Share what you learn with the wider team to shape the group’s AI engineering standards
What you’ll bring
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, and you still enjoy writing code
- Real experience using AI coding tools to speed up delivery across the SDLC
- Experience rolling out AI‑assisted development beyond your own team, such as coaching, workshops or shared workflows other teams adopted
- Experience in a lead role, guiding teams or driving technical initiatives
- A track record of driving change across a business, bringing engineers and stakeholders with you
- Sound judgement on AI quality, testing, review and guardrails
- The confidence to earn trust quickly with both engineers and business leaders
Nice to have but not dealbreakers
- A consulting background, or experience across several industries
- Experience modernising legacy codebases or monoliths
What’s on offer
- £Competitive base salary plus up to 10% bonus
- A permanent role with a stable, growing global group
- Fully remote
- Wide-reaching impact and variety, with a new business and new problems every few months
