Job description

Summary

Under direction, the AHD Ultrasound Technologist performs Diagnostic Ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail and within established departmental policies and procedures. Identifies and reports to the Radiology Manager any changes in protocols, equipment, software upgrade needs, and other budget impact changes. Ensures proper equipment maintenance and cleaning. Performs related duties as required.

Duties & Essential Job Functions

Note: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification; however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in this classification.

  1. Perform ultrasound examinations according to established protocols. Coordinate ultrasound scheduling and workflow.
  2. Provide patients with clear instructions and assistance before, during, and after examinations. Exhibit excellent customer service and use age-appropriate communication.
  3. Maintain par levels of all ultrasound-related supplies and place orders timely to ensure uninterrupted service.
  4. Coordinate equipment maintenance and cleaning to minimize downtime.
  5. Oversee the performance of sonographers orienting to the section. Be patient, informative, and professional—lead by example.
  6. Report patient complaints, discrepancies, and incidents related to ultrasound examinations to the department manager.
  7. Process images, organize paperwork, and complete charge sheets related to ultrasound examinations.
  8. Review, update, and validate policies and procedures related to ultrasound examinations.
  9. Prepare call schedule for ultrasound coverage, ensuring proper staffing at all times.
  10. Participate in implementing patient care standards, infection control standards, and quality assurance criteria. Attend department meetings.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited program in ultrasound/medical sonography.

Minimum Experience: Will consider new graduates.

Required Licenses/Certifications: ARDMS certification in OBGYN and/or Abdomen/Small Parts. ARDMS-eligible candidates may be considered if they commit to obtaining ARDMS certification in at least one required specialty within six months of hire. Additionally, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.

Pay Range

$53.65 - $70.71 per hour

The pay range reflects the base pay scale at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will depend on experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, collective bargaining agreements, and operational needs. Alameda Health System offers a comprehensive benefits program.
