Job summary

Zekelman Industries is seeking an Automation Engineer (AGV Specialist) to own programming, commissioning, and optimization of a heavy‑duty AGV system across indoor bays, outdoor yards, and multi-building operations. You will bridge machinery with software, ensuring 24/7 reliability and maximum throughput.

Responsibilities include AGV routing, PLC/HMI development, sensor tuning, safety configurations, and systems integration with MES/WMS/ERP.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands-on industrial experience.
3+ years programming and commissioning autonomous systems/AGVs.
Proficiency in PLC languages (Ladder, Structured Text, Function Block).
Understanding of industrial protocols: EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, CAN bus.
Familiarity with LiDAR SLAM, RTK-GPS, or magnetic guidance for AGVs.
Willingness to work in heavy industrial environment with heat, dust and outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

Program, configure, and optimize AGV routing, traffic control, and dispatch sequencing.
Develop and modify PLC code and HMI screens for integration with plant infrastructure.
Tune navigation systems and ensure safe operation across environments.
Configure safety systems including laser scanners and emergency stops to standards.
Integrate AGV fleet management with MES/WMS/ERP via industrial protocols.
Conduct field testing, path validation, and load testing under various conditions.
Create technical docs and train maintenance staff.
