Job summary

Farmers Coop Society seeks an Agronomy Training & Maintenance Specialist to lead technical agronomy efforts and to maintain equipment across the cooperative. You will help certify applicators, train staff, and promote safety and efficient agronomy practices.

You will operate and help plan seasonal applications, support operations, and ensure compliance with regulations while mentoring team members for skill development and safety culture.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Commercial Applicator Certification preferred.
  • CDL Class A with tanker and Haz-Mat endorsements may be required depending on vehicle use.
  • Strong knowledge of agronomy equipment, application practices, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor employees.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on agronomy equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and application systems.
  • Coordinate equipment readiness to maximize uptime during peak seasons.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Operate sprayers, floaters, spreaders, and other application equipment.
  • Assist with seasonal agronomy operations, including application, delivery, and inventory management.
  • Support managers with operational planning and workforce development.
  • Ensure compliance with pesticide, fertilizer, DOT, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with training and onboarding new agronomy employees.

Overall, Job Function

The Agronomy Training & Maintenance Specialist serves as a technical leader within the agronomy department of Farmers Coop Society. This role combines firsthand agronomy operations experience with employee development, equipment maintenance, and mentorship. The specialist is responsible for helping maintain agronomy equipment, assisting with certifying new and current applicators, ensuring they are versed on equipment and technology, while supporting agronomy operations. Operating application equipment during peak seasons, and promoting safety, efficiency, and profitable agronomy practices across the cooperative.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on agronomy equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, application and tool-bar system issues.
  • Coordinate equipment readiness to maximize uptime during peak seasons.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Operate sprayers, floaters, spreaders, tenders, and other application equipment as needed.
  • Assist with seasonal agronomy operations, including application, delivery, and inventory management.
  • Support agronomy managers with operational planning and workforce development.
  • Ensure compliance with all pesticide, fertilizer, DOT, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with training and onboarding new agronomy employees in application operations, equipment uses, safety procedures, and cooperative standards.
  • Serve as a technical resource for agronomy team members.
  • Assist in developing training materials and standard operating procedures.
  • Evaluate employee progress with equipment and technology while helping provide coaching to improve performance and skill development.
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent level of experience.
  • Class A CDL license with tanker and Haz-mat endorsement as applicable to driving a truck with an acceptable driving record.
  • 3+ years of agronomy application and equipment operation experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of agronomy equipment, application practices, and maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and mentor employees.
  • Commercial Applicator Certification.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
Work Requirements

This position is based in a fast-paced agricultural setting and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibrations. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate to loud. PPE will be provided and must be utilized according to safety standards. Typical working hours are based on customer and organizational demand; hours may be long, irregular and include weekends and holidays during peak season.

While performing job functions the employee will be required to talk and hear most of the time. The employee will spend frequent intervals moving and sitting, while also needing to reach, bend, twist, crawl, crouch, stoop or kneel. The employee will need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and maneuver on and off mobile equipment. The physicality of this job is medium.
