Job Title: Agriculture Teacher
This position is exempt or non-exempt.
Primary Function
The Agriculture Teacher, under the supervision of the Principal of Rappahannock High School, will instruct various agriculture classes, demonstrate extensive knowledge of behavioral principles and instructional practices, and maintain qualities of leadership, integrity, and professionalism. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the agricultural studies pathway in Richmond County Public Schools.

High School Principal
Responsibilities
- Utilize effective teaching techniques to help students achieve performance objectives.
- Develop and implement lessons on agricultural mechanics, animal selection, crop production, and agribusiness management.
- Supervise students at the school site.
- Maintain Agriculture curriculum aligned with STEM objectives.
- Lead the FFA Advisory Committee.
- Report student training hours and skills, and recommend certificates of completion.
- Ensure punctual submission of attendance and grade reports.
- Prepare students for employment, further training, or career advancement.
- Attend staff and relevant meetings.
- Coordinate with industry, community, and apprenticeship programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Experience
- At least 3 years of work experience related to agriculture, with at least 1 year within the last 3 years.
- Up to 2 years of experience may be substituted with post-secondary education in agriculture.
Certificates and Licenses
- Graduation from an approved teacher preparation program in agriculture education or equivalent coursework.
- Possession of or eligibility for a Virginia Designated Subjects Vocational Education Teaching Credential in Agriculture.
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of the agriculture industry and STEM applications.
- Understanding of agriculture applications such as mechanics, crop production, soil science, and farm management.
- Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional practices.
- Awareness of current industry trends and careers.
Abilities
- Ability to teach agriculture and animal production classes.
- Ability to develop lesson plans and employ diverse teaching strategies.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Flexibility, organization, and adaptability to workload.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting up to 70 pounds.
Terms of Employment
200-day contract. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
