Job summary

University of Maryland Extension in Prince George's County is seeking an Educator to coordinate and support agronomy and horticultural crops, livestock, and farm marketing programs. You will work with extension faculty to deliver education, training, and outreach across the county and state.

You will develop and evaluate programs, provide training for pesticide and nutrient management, and foster collaborations with local agencies.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in agricultural education, agronomy, animal science, horticulture, agricultural business, or related field.
  • Three years of leadership and management experience that demonstrates the ability to work well with farmers and community leaders.
  • Knowledge and use of computer technology for educational programming and management.
  • Plant diagnostic skills, such as identifying weeds, insects, and diseases.
  • Must become a certified Maryland nutrient management advisor/consultant and obtain a commercial pesticide applicators license in category-10 public agency.
  • Must travel throughout the Cluster, as well as the state of Maryland as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and transportation.
  • This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Work with UME Agriculture and Food Systems teams to develop and evaluate educational programs for crops, livestock, and farm business management.
  • Deliver programs in crop production, farm and agribusiness management, IPM, pesticide safety, nutrient management, and natural resource conservation.
  • Provide training and recertification opportunities for pesticide applicators and voucher holders.
  • Develop Extension programs to improve farm financial viability and value-added agriculture projects.
  • Collaborate with local planning and marketing professionals on economic development initiatives.
  • Prepare information for media, newsletters, and public communications.
  • Develop grant-funded projects to expand applied research and education.
