Job description

Agricultural Specialist I

Position Summary: This position reports directly to the Swine Farm Manager in the Animal and Dairy Science Department and ultimately to the Head of ADS. The principal duties include providing daily operational support, feed preparation, facility maintenance, equipment operation and repair, and collaboration with faculty and staff to fulfill research, teaching and extension missions.

Responsibilities

• Support farm operations and facilities maintenance ensuring animal health and safety.
• Feed livestock and maintain feeding systems and waterers.
• Safely operate machinery (tractor, skid steer, backhoe, dump truck, and other equipment).
• Assist faculty, technicians and students with collection of research samples and data.
• Participate in herd breeding program including insemination, gilt and sow care, processing newborn pigs, and providing treatment and care for all animals.
• Comply with UGA policies including record keeping and timekeeping.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of livestock management, animal handling, and agronomic practices for animal production.
• General knowledge of planting and harvesting forage and row crops.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work activities.
• Experience with equipment, fence repair, and construction.

Physical Demands

• Feeding, maintaining feeding systems and waterers, operating machinery, aiding animals.
• Driving as needed to perform job duties.

Additional Requirements

• Driving is a responsibility of this position.
• Position requires no trust level, no access to financial resources, and no P-Card use.
