Job summary

North Carolina State University is seeking an Agricultural Research Technician to support field crops, vegetables, fruit, tobacco, and animal research specimens in Clayton, NC. The role involves hands-on field work, equipment operation, and contribution to data collection and laboratory support.

You will collaborate with researchers across units, gain experience across crops and facilities, and help ensure high-quality, reliable results in the Clayton location.

Qualifications

• Experience in agricultural, horticultural, livestock, or field-based research activities.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain farm or research equipment, including tractors, loaders, or similar machinery.
• Experience maintaining data logs, research records, or field activity documentation with accuracy and detail.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions; lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to follow written research protocols, safety procedures, and pesticide label instructions.

Responsibilities

• Establish, maintain, treat, and harvest research plots per protocols.
• Apply pesticides, fertilizers, irrigation, and other treatments as required.
• Operate equipment for field preparation, treatment, planting, cultivation, harvesting.
• Perform hand planting/harvesting; assist with plot layout and data collection.
• Install and maintain irrigation systems, including drip systems.
• Assist with maintenance of equipment, grounds, and facilities.
• Maintain work areas and plots to ensure reliable results.
