Job summary

New Mexico State University Agricultural Science Center at Farmington seeks an Agricultural Science Center Laborer to support daily operations of agricultural research plots. The role includes planting, irrigation, weed control, and upkeep of fields, as well as equipment operation and field maintenance.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position at the Farmington satellite location, with weekend/evening shifts possible. HS diploma required; AFSCME bargaining unit.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or higher degree required.
• Experience with agricultural field work is a plus.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Plant, harvest, cultivate and irrigate research plots.
• Mow, edge, water lawns, trees and shrubs.
• Spray for weeds and insects; apply fertilizers.
• Operate farm equipment including tractors and harvesters.
• Assist in fencing, road maintenance, sheds, and building repairs.
• Clean and sterilize cages, stalls, and feeding equipment.
• Care for research livestock where applicable.
• Load and transport debris and equipment using NMSU vehicles.
