Job description

Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85.

Responsibilities

The main duties Agriculture Instructor would be responsible for include:

  • Engaging in a variety of learning support and instruction/institutional practices, including developing syllabi, facilitating student learning in classroom and lab settings, recruiting, advising, tutoring, and evaluating students.
  • Teaching current and future students to meet Agriculture demands.
  • Mentoring students in agriculture and teaching college courses in general agriculture curriculum, agribusiness, and related agriculture curriculum.
  • Advising students, developing courses, and instructing students on the basic study of Agriculture to meet the requirements of an Associate of Science and/or transfer program. Some travel is required.

The second part of the position includes assisting in Assistant Livestock Judging Coach duties:

  • Assisting with the two livestock judging teams on campus while students practice and prepare for competitions.
  • Engaging in a variety of learning support for students.
  • Mentoring students in Agriculture related majors.
  • Coaching and traveling with both livestock judging teams.
  • Representing SCCC at local, regional, state, and national collegiate livestock judging contests.
  • Being active in student recruitment.
  • Completing daily tasks around the agriculture complex, including fixing fence and maintaining livestock pens.
  • Maintaining the greenhouse for fruit and vegetable production.
  • Planting, maintaining, and harvesting of crop fields.
  • Caring for fish and assisting with bio-fuels production and maintenance of Grain Bins.
  • Feeding and caring for goats and other animals on campus.
  • Running and maintaining farm equipment.

Qualifications

Master’s degree required. Previous teaching instruction in community college or secondary education preferred.

Salary/Benefits
