Job summary

James River Equipment in Shelby, NC seeks an Agricultural Equipment Mechanic to repair, maintain, and address customer concerns on heavy farm machinery at customer sites, often outdoors. You will diagnose issues, repair engines and hydraulics, order parts, and ensure safe, quality service.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 3–5+ years on large ag equipment, knowledge of diesel engines, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required or demonstrated experience.
• 3–5 years or more of recent experience as a field mechanic on large ag/farm equipment and diesel engines; John Deere experience preferred.
• Vocational or technical degree, or equivalent work experience/training.
• Knowledge of service department operations and heavy equipment technology.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred.

Job Overview

As an Agricultural Equipment Mechanic you will work at customer locations, often outside in varying weather conditions, to repair, maintain, and address any customer concerns or questions regarding heavy farm and agricultural equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, adjust, and maintain construction and operating systems on various types of heavy equipment, specifically farm/large agricultural equipment.
• Use problem‑solving resources such as DTAC, technical manuals, and personal expertise to diagnose equipment problems.
• Request and track necessary parts through the parts department.
• Plan and execute the sequence of repairs.
• Conduct major repairs including engine underhauls, head gasket replacements, rear axle replacement, hydraulic valve and pump work, rock shaft repair, and transmission repairs.
• Prepare accurate inspection and service reports and maintain other required records.
• Follow company policies and government regulations.
• Maintain clean and orderly work areas in compliance with company safety standards.

Job Requirements
