Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) seeks a Department Head for the Agile Systems Engineering Department. You will provide strategic direction, technical leadership, and operational oversight for a ~10-person team, shaping rapid, tailored systems integration across programs.

You will lead research portfolios, mentor engineers, and foster partnerships with U.S. Military Program Offices, industry, and other government labs while driving workforce development and training

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science.
• 19+ years of relevant experience.
• Active security clearance, at the Secret level or higher.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all aspects of the Agile Systems Engineering Department.
• Build and direct a multidisciplinary team on systems engineering projects.
• Mentor engineers in applying systems engineering to complex problems.
• Develop relationships with sponsors to meet funding objectives.
• Lead research projects, write proposals, manage budgets, deliver results.
• Foster partnerships with military offices, defense contractors, and laboratories.
