Job summary

ZipStaff is seeking an Agile Business Analyst to join a delivery team in the Washington, DC area on an on-site contract basis (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C). You will sit between business stakeholders and technical teams—eliciting needs, writing actionable requirements, and helping a self-organizing Agile squad deliver iterative value.

This is a hands-on BA role, not a project-manager or Scrum Master position.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a Business Analyst on Agile delivery teams.
• Hands-on Agile/Scrum/Kanban experience (not classroom-only).
• Experience mapping processes, identifying gaps, modeling workflows, and analyzing data dependencies.
• Experience writing user stories and acceptance criteria and supporting UAT.
• Strong workshop facilitation and written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Conduct discovery sessions, interviews, and workshops to translate business goals into user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, and functional specs.
• Map current and future workflows, processes, data flows, and business models to identify automation opportunities.
• Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, and retrospectives.
• Own iteration commitments, capacity planning, and allocation; maintain requirements traceability across the lifecycle.
• Support UAT, manage defects, and drive sign-off with business sponsors.

About the Opportunity

ZipStaff is seeking an Agile Business Analyst to join a delivery team at a major passenger rail and transportation organization in the Washington, DC area.

You will sit between business stakeholders and technical teams—eliciting needs, writing actionable requirements, and helping a self-organizing Agile squad deliver iterative value. This is a hands‑on BA seat, not a project‑manager or Scrum Master role.

What You’ll Do:

• Run discovery sessions, interviews, and workshops; turn business goals into user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, and functional specs.
• Map current- and future-state workflows, process diagrams, business models, and data flows; identify automation and efficiency opportunities.
• Participate fully in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, and retrospectives.
• Own your iteration commitments, capacity planning, and allocation.
• Maintain requirements traceability across the solution lifecycle and validate design against business goals.
• Facilitate UAT, manage defect tracking, and drive business sign-off.
• Act as liaison among Product Owners, technical leads, and business sponsors.
• Keep camera on for most team ceremonies and stakeholder sessions (video-first culture).

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years as a Business Analyst on Agile delivery teams.
• Hands‑on Agile / Scrum / Kanban experience (not classroom‑only).
• Process mapping, gap analysis, workflow modeling, and system‑dependency analysis.
• Experience writing user stories and acceptance criteria and supporting UAT.
• Strong workshop facilitation and written/verbal communication.
• Self‑managed: capacity, priorities, and commitments without close supervision.
• Ability to work on‑site in Washington, DC and stay visually present on video for ceremonies.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Enterprise or public‑sector delivery in the DC region.
• Transportation, rail, or other regulated‑operations environment.
