Job summary

CalPortland is seeking an Aggregate Plant Maintenance/Operator to operate equipment and perform safe repairs and maintenance on mining equipment in an aggregate facility.

Responsibilities include inspections, troubleshooting, and supporting plant operations. The role requires overtime, weekend work, and travel between locations, with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to MSHA rules.

Qualifications

  • Safety Sensitive position.
  • Ability to work alone and within a team.
  • Operate loader, dozer, water truck, and haul truck.
  • Ability to load dump trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with aggregates and construction materials.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Overtime, extended hours, and weekend work as required.
  • Travel locally between locations.
  • Experience with welding, fabricating, belt splicing, and crushers.
  • Knowledge of aggregate plant equipment (hoppers, belts, conveyors, screens, crushers).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with mine site safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to use electric and air-powered hand tools.
  • Work outdoors in inclement weather (up to 12 hours).
  • Lift 50 lbs frequently, up to 100 lbs occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance problems to minimize costs and delays.
  • Monitor, repair, and replace worn parts.
  • Use tools to complete repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Weld and cut to repair/maintain equipment.
  • Operate loader and other equipment as needed.
  • Perform general labor duties (shoveling, sweeping).
  • Understand CalPortland policies and MSHA rules.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Work irregular hours including weekends to finish tasks.
  • Use PPE at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Aggregate Plant Maintenace / Operator is responsible for operating equipment as needed and performing safe repair, maintenance of mining equipment typically found in an aggregate facility, including, but not limited to screen decks, material screws, conveyors, pumps, dust collectors, bins, silos, and hoppers. This individual is expected to complete pre‑shift and post‑shift equipment inspections, submit required daily documentation, and assist in plant operations as needed.

Education

High School Diploma/GED

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Operate heavy machinery including loader, dozer, water truck, and haul truck.
  • Ability to load dump trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with aggregates and construction materials – sand, gravel, crushed rock, etc.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work overtime, extended hours, and weekend work as required for timely project completion.
  • Travel locally between locations.
  • Experience with welding, fabricating, belt splicing, and/or familiarity working around crushers, screens, sand screws, etc.
  • Knowledge of various aggregate plant equipment including hoppers, feeders, conveyors, screens, crushers, and track‑mounted screens and crushers.
  • Current driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with mine site safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to use various electric and air‑powered hand tools and equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, rain) for shifts up to 12 hours in length.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently, up to 100 pounds occasionally, climb stairs/ladders, and walk on uneven or rough terrain.
  • Punctual and reliable, with adequate means of transportation to arrive at work when scheduled.
Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post‑offer pre‑employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. FMCSA regulated and Safety Sensitive positions require ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
