Job summary

Jobtailor in Raleigh, NC seeks a dedicated SBI Special Agent who will investigate criminal activity, conduct crime-scene searches, interview and interrogate suspects, and prepare reports for prosecution. You will assist law enforcement agencies and testify in court while maintaining professional demeanor.

The role requires US citizenship, NC Basic Law Enforcement Certification, BLET/SBI training, strong decision making, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
• U.S. citizen required.
• Current North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
• Successful completion of BLET Training, the SBI Academy, and Field Training Program upon hire.
• Must meet NC statutory standards for law-enforcement officers.
• Maintain physical fitness per certification standards.
• Maintain grooming and appearance standards.
• Make sound decisions promptly and evaluate consequences of actions.
• Comprehend and apply laws, statutes, and codes.
• Communicate clearly via police radio and electronic systems.
• Work a 160-hour month minimum and complete a 24-month probation.
• Background checks, polygraph, credit and arrest checks, and other verifications.
• Bilingual proficiency preferred; proficiency test may be administered.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must have current North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Certification
• Must successfully complete BLET Training, the SBI Academy, and the SBI Field Training Program upon hire
• Must meet applicable North Carolina statutory standards for law-enforcement officers
• Maintain physical fitness sufficient for North Carolina law-enforcement certification standards
• Maintain professional grooming and appearance standards
• Make sound decisions promptly and evaluate consequences of alternative actions
• Comprehend, retain, and accurately apply laws, statutes, and codes
• Communicate clearly via police radio and electronic communication systems
• Conduct oneself on and off duty in a manner preserving credibility and community confidence
• Work a minimum 160-hour work period per month
• Serve a 24-month probationary period
• Successfully pass background investigation, pre-employment polygraph, credit and arrest checks, reference and verification interviews, medical examination, drug screening, and psychological assessment
• Successfully complete Review Board assessment, modified Physical Abilities Test, polygraph examination, and firearms assessment
• Bilingual proficiency is preferred; proficiency test administered

Demonstrates expertise in criminal investigations, including conducting interviews, preparing reports, and testifying in court. Maintains compliance with North Carolina law enforcement standards and possesses strong decision-making and communication skills.
