Responsibilities

  • Supervise youth assistant coaches.
  • Supervise student-athletes.
  • Stay current with coaching rules and best practices.
  • Monitor student-athletes to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Place student-athletes in positions to succeed in sport and life.
  • Demonstrate strong communication with sports medicine staff, officials, and parents.
  • Ensure safety measures and proper equipment handling.
  • Attend all training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Work flexible hours including mornings, afternoons, weekends and holidays.
  • Verify student-athlete eligibility by governing bodies and RSD policies.
  • Plan and manage practices and training sessions.
  • Secure equipment and facilities after use.
  • Coordinate with RSD admin, safe schools, custodial services as needed.
  • Be a good role model for student-athletes.
  • Distribute and track uniforms/equipment; requisition equipment.
  • Support all RSD athletics programs.

Job description

Position Title: Youth Swim Head Coach
Reports To: Assistant Athletic Director for Aquatics & High School Head Coach
Salary: Stipend (set by coaches pay scale)
Position Goal

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe conditions in accordance with governing bodies, league, sports medicine and RSD policies/procedures. Furthermore the candidate will be responsible for instilling Red Knight pride, teaching education through athletics, and fundraising.

Qualifications
  • Must be a minimum age of 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferable experience working in a supervision role in athletics, recreation, education, or related fields.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with adults and students in a diverse work environment.
  • Current lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain.
Essential Functions
  • Supervise youth assistant coaches
  • Supervise student-athletes
  • Stay current with current rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices
  • Monitor student-athletes to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Place student-athletes in positions to succeed not only in their sport, but also in life
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including communication skills with sports medicine staff, game workers, officials, media, students, parents, spectators, and facility staff.
  • Ensures that all possible safety measures are observed, including taking proper care of equipment and proper surveillance of program participants.
  • Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.
  • Work flexible hours including, early mornings, afternoon/evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Verify student-athletes are eligible by governing bodies and Reading School District Athletic policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan and manage practices/training sessions.
  • Secure equipment and facilities after each usage
  • Communicate with RSD admin, safe schools, custodial services and/or RPD as needed.
  • Be a good role model to student-athletes
  • Distribute, collect and track uniforms/equipment

Physical Requirements
  • Physically perform all skills required of a coach.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in a crowded athletic facility.
  • Able to withstand extreme weather conditions
  • Able to lift at least 20 pounds.
