Job summary

Morris, Inc. is hiring an Agriculture Irrigation & Electrical Technician to service center pivot irrigation systems across Central South Dakota. The role emphasizes hands-on electrical work, troubleshooting, and field servicing of electrical panels, VFDs, transformers, and motors.

You will travel between farm sites, maintain equipment, and ensure safety and compliance with NEC and state regs. CDL/License goals are supported by the company.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; electrical degree preferred.
  • Valid South Dakota driver’s license; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • SD Electrical License — apprentice level minimum, or willingness to obtain.
  • Reinke Plus certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
  • Forklift and small equipment operation experience.
  • Knowledge of VFD and control systems a plus.
  • Strong self-motivation, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. repeatedly and perform sustained physical, outdoor work.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair center pivot irrigation systems in the field.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve pivot functionality issues — mechanical, structural, and electrical.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical control panels, wiring, and lighting systems.
  • Perform general electrical maintenance on facility and field equipment.
  • Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, electric motors, and other electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using testing devices and diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of VFD and control systems and testing equipment.
  • Follow the National Electrical Code and state/local building regulations.

From VFD drives and control systems to transformers and three-phase motors, you’ll work on the kind of challenges that actually demand your skills.

This is a hands‑on, field‑first position where your electrical knowledge is front and center — backed by a team that invests in your certifications and trusts you to get the job done right.

What You’ll Earn

Journeyman: $31.00 – $36.00 per hour | Depending on experience

Without Journeyman: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour | Depending on experience

What You’ll Do
  • Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair center pivot irrigation systems in the field
  • Troubleshoot and resolve pivot functionality issues — mechanical, structural, and electrical
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical control panels, wiring, and lighting systems
  • Perform general electrical maintenance on facility and field equipment
  • Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, electric motors, and other electrical components
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices and diagnostic equipment
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of VFD and control systems and testing equipment
  • Follow the National Electrical Code and applicable state and local building regulations
Stay Organized, Stay Efficient
  • Track time and materials on each project and complete accurate, timely repair reports
  • Maintain vehicles, tools, inventory, and rolling stock in clean, operational condition
  • Perform daily equipment maintenance — grease, fuel, and fluid level checks
  • Inspect equipment for wear or irregularities and report findings to supervisor promptly
Support the Team in the Field
  • Operate forklifts, telehandlers, skid steers, and other small equipment as needed
  • Handle, fit, and install pipe and associated appurtenances as directed
  • Load, unload, and backfill materials; support pipe crew operations
  • Prepare work areas ahead of crew operations
  • Deliver or retrieve equipment from active job sites as needed
Serve Customers and Work Safely
  • Provide professional, excellent customer service during all field interactions
  • Support and conduct customer clinics and training sessions
  • Follow all company safety rules, regulations, and state/federal standards at all times
  • Participate in continuing education and training to develop skills and knowledge
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What You’ll Need

Where You’ll Work

You’ll be based out of our shop location in South Dakota, with regular trips into the field to service customer equipment at farm sites across the region. Expect a hands‑on environment with a well‑equipped shop and a team that respects your time and expertise. Safety is always a top priority, and proper gear is required at all times.
