Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York's Broadway YMCA is seeking an Activity Specialist focusing on literacy within the Y Afterschool program. The role supports academic enhancement, holiday camps, and a safe environment for school-age children while delivering engaging literacy activities.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of youth program experience, and formal literacy certification. Proficiency with MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• College credits preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with youth and planning literacy activities.
• Formal certification in literacy/reading required.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfortable working with diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, positive environment for school-age children in Y Afterschool program.
• Prepare and deliver age-appropriate literacy instruction for all grades.
• Plan meaningful activities and events that are engaging and value-based.
• Collaborate with Afterschool Counselors, teachers, and staff.
• Maintain accurate program documentation and communicate with caregivers.
