Job summary

Educational Alliance in New York seeks part-time Afterschool Leaders to supervise and support K-5th participants in the 14Y After School Program.

You will pick up students, maintain safety, model positive behavior, and collaborate with staff to provide enriching activities across Art, Sports, Science, Music, and more.

The role emphasizes inclusivity, confidentiality, and ongoing supervision with orientation in September.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all staff orientation prior to After School.
  • Attend all scheduled After School days and monthly staff meetings.
  • Pick up students from designated locations and escort them safely to the 14Y.
  • Communicate regularly with the Afterschool Program Manager.
  • Work harmoniously with co-Group Leaders and Social Work Interns.
  • Maintain standards of conduct, behavior management and inclusion.
  • Uphold Afterschool values: Personal Growth, Empathy, Respect, Passion.
  • Attend supervision and participate in evaluation processes.
  • Adhere to safety standards and city regulations.
  • Support youth development through activities like Art, Sports, Science, Music, Theatre, and more.
  • Develop rapport with participants and parents, maintaining safety and confidentiality.
  • Ensure physical and mental health and safety of children in the Afterschool community.
  • Keep records of student activity, behavior, and injuries/accidents.
  • Participate in activities and support campers during all activities.
  • Provide quality supervision during school pick-up, homeroom, snack, and transitions.
  • Assist teachers and lead activities when needed.
  • Be open to leading at least one easy-going class per week with support from leadership.
  • Encourage participant engagement and daily on-site support.
  • Focus on social dynamics and friendship building.
  • During swim duty, ensure children are safe and follow pool rules.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of spaces and supplies.

The 14Y After School Program engages hands, heads, and hearts for children in K-5th grade attending schools across the East Village. After School is a neurodiverse community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical students to have a successful after school day.

We are seeking part-time Afterschool Leaders who are enthusiastic, highly motivated role models who are directly responsible for the well-bring and safety of participants in the 14Y After School community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend all days of staff orientation before After School
  • Attend all scheduled days of After School and monthly staff meetings during the year (After School runs from September 14, 2026 through June 4, 2027)
  • Pick up students from designated school pickiup location and escort them safety to the 14Y while following all safety and attendance procedures
  • CommunicateregularlyandeffectivelywithAfterschoolProgramManager
  • Workharmoniouslywithassignedco-Group-Leader(s)andSocialWorkInterns
  • MaintainstandardsofAfterschoolconduct,behaviormanagementprotocols,and inclusion
  • Whenworkingwithchildrenandfellowstaff,upholdandimplement Afterschoolvalues (Personal Growth, Empathy, Respect, and Passion)
  • Attendregularsupervisionandparticipateinevaluationprocesses
  • Mustadheretoagencyand site-specificsafetystandards

  • SupportyouthdevelopmentthroughAfterSchoolprogrammingwhichincludes,butis not limited to: Art, Sports, Science, Music, Theatre, Academic Support, Shabbat programming, and more!
  • Effectively develop a rapport with participants and parents, maintaining safety and confidentiality
  • Assumeresponsibilityforthephysicalandmentalhealthandsafetyof childreninthe Afterschool Community
  • Keep a record of student activity, behavior, and injuries/accidents
  • Activelyparticipateinandsupportcampersthroughoutallactivities
  • Providequalitysupervisionatalltimes(e.g. duringschoolpick-up,inassigned homeroom, during snack, throughout activities and all transitional periods)
  • AssistTeacherswithchildren’sneedsduringactivitiesandstepintoleadif/when necessary
  • Beopentoleadingatleastoneeasy-goingclassaweeksuchasboardgames,ballgames, yoga, watercolors, with support from After School leadership etc.
  • Encourageallparticipantstoparticipate&betheiron-sitedailysupportsystem
  • Focusonsocialdynamics&friendshipbuildingofassignedchildren
  • Whenassignedtorequiredmonthlyswimduty,ensurethatchildrenaresafeand abiding by pool rules.
  • Beresponsiblefor overallcleanlinessandorganizationofspacesandsupplies
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18+
  • Availability to work on site at the 14Y from 2:30pm-6:15pm at least 3 days per week from September 14th - January 22nd and January 25th-June 4th and staff orientation in September
  • Previous experience working with children ages 5 to 10 years old strongly preferred.
  • Abilitytocommunicateeffectivelyandrespectfullywithallcommunitymembers, including modeling and facilitating positive conflict resolution
  • Abilitytobeamentorandbearesourcetostudents,staff,familiesandembrace/foster cultural inclusiveness
