Job summary

LearningWorks Afterschool at East End Community School in Portland, ME is seeking a Part-Time After-School Education Coordinator to lead our afterschool program.

This role supports staff, coordinates programming, communicates with families and school partners, and ensures that students receive engaging and effective academic support.

Ideal candidates bring relationship-centered youth development, strong communication, and experience with elementary students; Maine teaching background is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
• Maine teaching certification preferred.
• Elementary teaching experience preferred.
• Experience with academically struggling or historically underserved student populations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operation of the afterschool program.
• Create a structured, welcoming learning environment that promotes academic growth and positive behavior.
• Provide and support targeted academic instruction for elementary students.
• Work with students individually and in small groups, including students performing below grade level.
• Help monitor student academic progress and use data to inform instruction.
• Support enrichment activities that build communication, problem-solving, initiative and perseverance.
• Supervise and support afterschool teaching staff.
• Coordinate daily programming, attendance, transportation and nutrition.
• Maintain strong relationships with students, families, school staff and community partners.
• Support student recruitment, enrollment and registration.
• Participate in team meetings, planning, professional development and continuous program improvement.
