Job summary

A community-focused organization is seeking an Afterschool Counselor at Jessie Mae Elementary School. The role involves encouraging school-aged children through active and engaging programs while providing a safe environment. AFTERSCHOOL COUNSELOR (JESSIE MAE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL)

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides direction for the program, classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

POSITION TYPE

Part‑time non‑exempt (hourly), available hours are Monday through Friday from as early as 2 pm to as late as 6 pm and as needed for Teacher Workdays and Holidays. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

WAGE RANGE

$13.72 – $15.12 per hour upon completion of training and relevant experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports.
  • Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Follows and implements the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age‑appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
