Job summary

Saleeby-Family-Ymca is seeking an Afterschool Coordinator to lead an afterschool childcare program. The role reports to the Youth Director and focuses on delivering quality experiences aligned with YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

You will supervise staff, manage program activities, ensure safety, and collaborate with families to provide a supportive environment in Sanford, North Carolina. CPR/First Aid and related trainings are required within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supervising children.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications required within 90 days of hire.

  • Manage department inventory, supplies, and equipment maintenance.
  • Schedule department staff per YMCA policies and address shift vacancies.
  • Provide safe supervision and a welcoming environment for participants.
  • Plan and implement culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities aligned with YMCA values.
  • Uphold safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attend staff meetings and YMCA trainings as directed.

POSITION SUMMARY: Afterschool CoordinatorProvide leadership and accountability for an Afterschool childcare program. Reports directly to the Youth Director, or Youth Development Director. Deliver a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Perform other departmental duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Supervise department Level 1 staff, including corrective action/coaching. Ensure mandatory training and certifications are complete. Report staff concerns to the Youth Director, or Youth Development Director.2. Manage department inventory, supplies and equipment maintenance. Report all maintenance and cleaning concerns to the Youth Director.3. Schedule department staff in accordance with YMCA employment policies, inform supervisor of shift vacancies.4. Provide safe supervision to participants and maintain a fun, welcoming environment.5. Implement and plan program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.6. Uphold program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.7. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Child Abuse Prevention training within 90 days of hire date.PHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings, including severe heat.• Ability to verbally lead group activities.• Adequate mobility, sight and hearing to effectively supervise program participants.• Sufficient strength and agility to perform essential functions of position including the ability to lift a child who weighs approximately 50 pounds.• Ability to perform essential functions which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: standing; sitting; semi-to-full reaching overhead; crouching; kneeling; carrying; twisting of the waist, shoulders and legs.
