Job summary

Chess Wizards, Inc. in Irvine, CA seeks enthusiastic, reliable instructors for after-school chess classes. Onboarding and training occur during the summer, with teaching starting in the fall; classes run weekday afternoons (2–5 PM) at local schools and include pre/post-class responsibilities.

We offer competitive pay per class ($65–$80), mileage reimbursement for travels >15 miles one way, and flexibility to teach 1–5 classes weekly. Great for a reliable side-hustle in a kid-friendly setting.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
• Ability to lead a class independently and create interactive, friendly, and fun sessions.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain piece movement, basic strategy, and simple tactics.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Use our structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and promote good sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols, including supervision during arrival, dismissal, and in-class activities.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
