Job summary

Metropolitan Family Service in Portland, OR is seeking an Afterschool Activity Leader to plan and deliver engaging classes in arts, sports, academics, and STEM for diverse grades. Each session groups 12-16 students and runs after school with supervision by the CAFE Site Manager and school staff.

The role emphasizes a safe, inclusive environment, strong classroom management, and collaboration with school personnel. 18+ and US work eligibility are required; Fall-term dates apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in teaching children and creating lesson plans.
• Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, safe setting.
• An independent, self-motivated, creative and resourceful individual.
• Excellent organization skills and interpersonal communication skills.
• A cooperative manner and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Demonstrate excitement in working with children and respect in all interactions.
• Experience working with elementary-age children and strong behavior management is a MUST.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be legally able to work in the United States.
• Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
• Basic English proficiency is required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach engaging, age-appropriate lessons with ties to academics, recreation and/or the arts during the afterschool hours.
• Supervise groups of 12-16 students while maintaining school-appropriate class decorum.
• Supervise groups during daily routines such as meal time, recess, bathroom breaks, and class transitions.
• Record and turn in student attendance daily.
• Maintain classroom and school rules to ensure students are safe.
• Communicate with the CAFE Site Manager about student progress and needs.
• Maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and custodians.
• Work within school and agency policies and protect student confidentiality.
