Job summary

Detroit Heals Detroit seeks an After-School Program Assistant to support tutoring, enrichment activities, and daily program operations for youth. You will help facilitate Healing Circles and promote a safe, inclusive environment where young people can grow academically and personally.

Youth-focused role requiring strong communication, boundaries, and teamwork; candidates should be prepared for background checks and staff training in a trauma-informed framework.

Qualifications

• Experience working with youth in school, nonprofit, mentoring, tutoring, recreation, camp, or similar settings.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.
• Willingness to complete required background checks and organizational training.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic support, tutoring, and homework assistance.
• Support daily program operations and enrichment activities.
• Facilitate Healing Circles and healing-centered programming.
• Build trusting relationships with youth and ensure a safe, inclusive environment.
• Document attendance, incidents, and program information; communicate concerns to leadership.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and field trips as needed.
