Job summary

University Settlement Society Of New York is seeking a part-time Youth Program Assistant for a partial year (10 months) assignment at our East Village location. This role runs Monday–Friday, 3:30pm–6:00pm (17.5 hours/week), for middle and high school youth, with a focus on safe, engaging, multidisciplinary activities and student support.

Responsibilities include planning lessons, providing homework help, tracking progress, and communicating with families.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or HSE required; current college enrollment is a plus.
  • Experience working with middle and high school populations.
  • Commitment for the entire school year.
  • Must be over 18 years old; energetic, dynamic and positive.

Responsibilities

  • Create and lead engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Design and implement lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities.
  • Provide academic assistance during homework period.
  • Involve children in a range of thematic lessons and activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model and maintain professional behavior.
  • Collaborate with co-counselor and supervision staff; communicate regularly.
  • Communicate progress with parents and caregivers.
  • Manage program supplies and facilities; complete documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
