Job summary

Good Shepherd Services is seeking an After School Group Leader in the Bronx, NY, to oversee a group of participants from 2pm to 6pm, Monday through Friday during the school year. The role provides up to 20 hours per week, with a focus on safety, curriculum development, and program engagement.

The role requires a high school diploma with at least 1 year of youth program experience; strong behavior guidance and community-building skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School/GED diploma and 1 year related experience in youth group development activities.
• Experience building a camp culture through chants, team building activities, and community building preferred.

Responsibilities

• Overall supervision and management of identified group of participants.
• Engage participants in after school activities and role model appropriate behavior.
• Ensure safety of participants at all times.
• Engage in outreach activities to ensure attendance and participation.
• Provide support to activity instructors and other group leaders.
• Develop and facilitate a sequenced and thematic curriculum and activities including arts & crafts.
• Integrate lessons enriched with literacy, history and other related academic subjects when applicable.
• Develop positive relationships with participants, colleagues and school/center personnel.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings (including some Saturdays/evenings).
• Assist with monitoring and maintaining the rules of the program and afterschool model.
• Plan and prepare culminating events for participants to showcase activities.
• Engage with parents and guardians in a professional manner.
• Discuss behavior problems and safety concerns with supervisor and complete paperwork.
• Supervise support staff and track participant development.
