Job summary

The New York Public Library is hiring Tutors for the NYPL After School program, delivering free homework help and enrichment activities for children ages 6–12 across NYPL locations. The 2025-2026 term runs Sept 14, 2026 to June 9, 2027, with orientation workshops Aug 31–Sept 11.

Tutors lead students in small groups and individually, manage attendance, coordinate supplies, and collaborate with branch staff. The role is part-time, 16 hours weekly, Mon–Thu 2:00–7:00 PM, at the Jerome Park Library,

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with children/teens in formal or informal educational settings.
• Experience teaching or tutoring across elementary subjects (math, science, reading, ELA, social studies).

Responsibilities

• Oversee NYPL After School homework help and enrichment at designated program locations (Mon–Thu, 2–7 PM).
• Welcome and engage children ages 6–12 in drop‑in activities during busy after‑school hours.
• Deliver flexible academic support in math, reading, science, and social studies across elementary grades.
• Record attendance, statistics, and distribute program supplies; communicate with families and branch staff.
• Design and implement engaging enrichment activities to promote reading and learning.
• Support Teen Reading Ambassadors and collaborate with Children’s Librarian for program activities.
• Attend periodic meetings/trainings and contribute to program development.

Education

Bachelor’s degree

Undergraduate degree in progress with at least two years completed
