Job summary

New York Public Library is hiring NYPL After School Tutors to support school-age children with homework and enrichment in the Harry Belafonte 115th Street Library location. The role runs 16 hours per week, Monday through Thursday afternoons, with shifts from roughly 2:00 to 7:00 PM.

Orientation will occur between August 31 and September 11, 2026. You will lead activities, work with children ages 6–12, and collaborate with Teen Reading Ambassadors and branch staff.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree or current enrollment with at least two years completed.
• Experience with children/teens in educational settings preferred.
• Ability to deliver math, science, ELA, and social studies support.

Responsibilities

• Oversee After School homework help and enrichment at designated locations (Mon–Thu 2–7 PM).
• Engage children ages 6–12 in drop-in homework help and enrichment activities.
• Deliver flexible academic support and promote learning across core subjects.
• Communicate with parents/caregivers and refer to branch staff for additional resources.
• Manage attendance, statistics, and distribution of program supplies.
• Collaborate with staff and participate in meetings and trainings.
• Design and implement engaging reading/learning enrichment activities.
• Support Teen Reading Ambassadors program staff when present.
• Assist Children's Librarian and branch staff with program activities.
• Attend periodic meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.
