Manhattan Youth in Manhattan is seeking a Transportation (Bus) Team Leader for after-school programs. This part-time role supports safe student transportation and leads bus group leaders during transitions from school to our Downtown Community Center.

Schedule is Monday-Thursday, 2:00pm-6:00pm, September through June following NYC DOE schedule. Candidates should enjoy interacting with children, communicate clearly, and be a proactive team player committed to the organization's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the bus counselor team with clear daily assignments and support.
  • Coordinate student pick-ups and ensure buses depart/arrive on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance and bus rosters.
  • Prioritize student safety and active supervision during boarding, riding, and transitions.
  • Serve as primary communication link between bus counselors and the DCC Afterschool team; communicate delays or incidents.
  • Respond effectively to transportation-related issues and emergencies per safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Compensation: $25.00 / hour

Description

Manhattan Youth is looking for a Transportation (Bus) Team Leader.

As a Transportation (Bus) Team Leader, you will play a critical role in keeping the children in our program safe. Transportation (Bus) Team Leader is expected to lead the Bus Group Leaders during student's transition from their school to our Downtown Community Center. Qualified candidates will enjoy interacting with people, love being around children of all ages, have a ready smile, and a lot of patience.

These are part-time, hourly positions available during the school year from September through June, following the NYC DOE schedule.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday

Time: 2:00pm-6:00pm

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the bus counselor team, providing clear daily assignments, expectations, and support.
  • Coordination Support for student pick-ups, ensuring buses depart and arrive according to the established schedule.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance and bus rosters, including confirming that all children are accounted for during pick-up, transportation, and arrival at DCC.
  • Prioritize student safety and active supervision throughout the entire transportation process, including boarding, riding, exiting, and transitioning into the program.
  • Serve as the primary communication link between bus counselors and DCC Afterschool immediately communicating delays, absences, behavioral concerns, route issues, or other incidents.
  • Respond effectively to transportation-related issues and emergencies, following Manhattan Youth safety procedures and ensuring incidents are properly communicated and documented.
  • Perform other job duties as required.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
  • Prior experience working with children;
  • Prior experience working in a childcare or after-school setting a plus;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Proactive self-starter with a team player mindset;
  • Previous customer service experience a plus;
