Imogen Roche Foundation, Inc. seeks a part-time visual arts teacher to lead engaging after-school workshops for elementary students in New York City. The program covers drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and multi-media.

Hours are 2:30pm to 5:00pm on days NYC public schools are in session. You will implement curriculum with a teaching assistant, plan lessons, supervise students, and contribute to social-emotional learning through creative activities.

Description

We are seeking a part-time teacher to lead fun and engaging visual art and design workshops with groups of elementary school children after school. Visual arts teachers will concentrate on one or more disciplines, including (but not limited to) drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and multi-media. The scheduled hours for Instructors are from 2:30pm to 5:00PM, when NYC public schools are in session.

Our programs are dedicated to supporting the social and emotional learning of participants by providing choice-based activities that empower student voices and using delivery methods that develop compassion, understanding, and kindness. In addition to being experts in specific fields of content, our Activity Specialists (Teachers, Coaches, Teaching Artists, etc.), are the educators who are most essential in ensuring that our after-school programs create experiences for children that are consistent with our vision of social and emotional learning: active listening, peer support, and radical kindness.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Implements course curriculum, and assists with its development
• Works with teaching assistant to create lesson plans in accordance with course curriculum
• Requests supplies from Site Supervisor well in advance of class sessions
• Leads classes with school age children
• Supervises children during transitions
• Supervises teaching assistants
• Communicates regularly with Site Supervisor and/or Director about student progress
• Plans, coordinates and oversees culminating events at the end of each cycle
